The integration of sustainability with our business philosophy, coupled with the implementation of a variety of innovative sustainability initiatives, resulted in Country Crest (parent company to Ballymaguire Foods) winning the 2011 Bord Bia Food & Drink Industry Sustainability Award. As a result, we were invited to become a pilot company for Bord Bia’s Origin Green Sustainability Development Programme.
Origin Green is a unique programme developed by Bord Bia (The Irish Food Board) to demonstrate internationally the commitment of Irish food and drink producers to operating sustainably – in terms of greenhouse gas emission, energy conservation, water management, biodiversity, community initiatives and health and nutrition.
At the heart of Origin Green is a sustainability charter that commits us to engage directly with the challenges of sustainability: reducing energy inputs, minimising overall carbon footprint and reducing our impact on the environment. In doing so, we are also increasing our overall efficiency and competitiveness. This sits alongside our own customised sustainability charter.
